On Tuesday, police in Carlton in Western New York charged five teens with disrupting a religious service. The teens are accused of honking car horns and yelling obscenities outside the World Sufi Foundation Mosque. One of the teens is accused of firing a shotgun near the mosque.

A member there said a group has been showing up outside the mosque for about three weeks and harassing the congregation. Another member said the incidents rise above pranks to “an aggressive act of hatred.”

Several other troubling incidents have occurred recently.

* At a Madera, Calif., mosque, an imam reported finding signs that read, “No Temple for the God of terrorism at Ground Zero.” Members of a Sacramento, Calif., Islamic center reported that a mock pig inscribed “No Mosque in NYC” was left there. Islam prohibits the consumption of pork products.

* In New York, a college student allegedly stabbed a New York City cabbie after the man confirmed he was Muslim. New York police also arrested a man for entering a mosque and urinating on prayer rugs. He reportedly also shouted anti-Muslim slurs.

* Arson is suspected in a fire at the future site of the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro in Tennessee.
